Ian and Oliver
Ian Molyneux and Oliver Tattersall

Ian (Media & Cultural Studies, 2009, County) from St Helen's and Oliver (Psychology, 2009, Grizedale) from Manchester met during their third-year courses playing for the Lancaster University Rugby League team. At the time, little did they know, that they would become business partners over the other side of the world. Both with completely different backgrounds, they found themselves on completely different paths. Ian moved into the Education sector to become a teacher in Hong Kong and Oliver developed a background in Finance and Business Management back in the UK.

“The cultural aspect of my degree gave me the nudge to travel and experience different cultures around the world, I thought, there’s no better way to do that than through teaching abroad” said Ian.

Ian started his journey to Hong Kong in 2010 and hasn’t looked back since. It was then in 2014 when he managed to persuade his friend to visit Hong Kong on holiday. Oliver instantly become hooked with the cosmopolitan Hong Kong lifestyle and soon found himself making to move soon after.

“It’s just one of those places that continues to amaze you. Most people just think of Hong Kong as skyscrapers and bright lights, but there’s so much more. Because Hong Kong is an island, you also have amazing beaches and surrounding mountains which offers an unrivalled work-life balance” said Oliver.

For those that don’t know, Hong Kong is like a mini New York, home to thousands of expats and offers such a variety of different activities which never makes it boring. Hong Kong opens the door to thousands of opportunities in all industries making it a target for many if they want to grow their career.

Through Ian’s educational knowledge in the city and Oliver’s business background, the pair began to develop a business idea for a personable and friendly company who help like-minded graduates with the opportunity to teach abroad and develop an international CV.

Ian recalls “I came to Hong Kong to be a teacher, and when I got here, I experienced a lot of difficulties. I had no help in finding work and no support in my early days in Asia. Agencies had little understanding of a teachers needs and aspirations. My experience has been motivational in making Experior Asia all that I wish I had experienced when I first arrived.

I soon realised that there were no agencies out there that really cared for their teacher’s well-being both inside and outside of the workplace. We wanted to create a company that would be personable and friendly. When we look for teachers, we consider all the fundamental aspects that make an effective teacher, including life experience, transferable skills, commitment and attitude.”
