Join Lancaster Graduate author Christy Theodoulou for an event exploring her debut novel Godless Cosmologies, a Gothic literary fantasy that blends philosophical reflection with surreal storytelling. Hear an extract read, a conversation with the author and have your chance to ask the author your questions. There will be opportunities to purchase a copy of the book and get it signed.

About the book: The novel follows Pear, a young patient arriving at Kopolka’s asylum on the day of his mother’s death, where he encounters Mystery, an enigmatic philosopher whose strange requests begin to blur the fragile boundary between reality and imagination. As Pear escapes into the soothing underwater world of the Water, where he becomes a whale guided by an erudite octopus, the story unfolds into a metaphysical journey about grief, love, identity and the search for meaning in a universe without divine order. Published by Hawkwood Books in 2026, the novel combines vivid world-building with profound questions about belonging and purpose.

At this special event, Theodoulou will share insights into the inspirations behind the book and the philosophical ideas that shape its strange and beautiful universe. Perfect for readers drawn to literary fantasy, philosophical fiction and dreamlike storytelling, this event offers an opportunity to discover a remarkable new voice and celebrate the power of books to open new worlds.
