CEEDS Seminar: Hands across the disciplines - how data science has helped atmospheric science and associated societal challenges Wednesday 19 May, 14:00 to 15:30

This CEEDS seminar will be led by Paul Young (LU) and Lindsay Banin (UKCEH) and will showcase successful examples from across the atmospheric sciences where state-of-art data science approaches have been developed and applied to address environmental and societal challenges. From our four speakers, we shall hear about examples that include applications of extreme value theory, model-measurement fusion with a machine learning approach, and the development of online information tools. Following the talks, we will discuss how we can build on the showcased examples and other promising approaches, as well as how we can help ensure that different disciplines leave satisfied from a collaboration.

Speakers:

  • Lily Gouldsbrough (Lancaster University) - Extreme value analysis of UK ozone
  • Matt Amos (Lancaster University) - Model-measurement fusion with Bayesian neural networks: Infilling historic observational records of ozone
  • Cristina Martinez Hernandez (UKCEH) - APIS & APENs New mapping interface
  • Peter Levy (UKCEH)Constraining UK greenhouse gas emissions: combining multiple data sources and atmospheric measurements in a Bayesian framework

The seminar is open to all staff from UKCEH and Lancaster University. To join please click on the Zoom link: https://ukri.zoom.us/j/99230547491?pwd=Rk5OV2tiaVphVFVTRUdYdko5UFp3UT09
