Silicon Photonics at the University of Southampton

This talk will give an overview of the current work at Southampton in the field of Silicon Photonics. An overview will be given of the activities in Silicon Photonics which has historically been aimed at short reach communications. This includes the design, testing, and fabrication of novel passive devices, a range of actives such as modulators, as well as recent work in developing Silicon based photonics platforms for other applications. This includes a mid refractive index Silicon Nitride platform and a silicon based platforms for Mid Infrared Silicon Photonics applications such as sensing lab on a chip. The talk will conclude by introducing the CORNERSTONE and Catalyst Fund projects that offer wafer scale photonic device and circuit fabrication for UK academic researchers and taught module providers.
