Developing Compassionate Training on Child Removal: Co-production, Practice and Online Learning

This online session will feature a practice-focused presentation from Women’s Health Matters (Leeds) exploring how frontline work with women affected by child removal has informed the development of a new co-produced training programme for professionals.

Women’s Health Matters has supported women and girls experiencing social, economic and gendered inequalities since 1987. Working alongside mothers with lived experience of having children removed through state intervention, the organisation has developed Understanding the Impact of Child Removal on Women: A Compassionate Approach, a training programme grounded in relational, trauma-informed and co-produced practice.

During the session, the team will reflect on the practice experiences that led to the development of the training, the importance of co-production with women who have direct experience of child removal, and the challenges and opportunities involved in translating in-person learning into an accessible online format for professionals across social care, health and related services. The discussion will also explore how modular and flexible learning approaches can support more thoughtful and compassionate engagement with women affected by child protection processes.

There will be time for discussion and questions with participants. Following the session, attendees who are interested will also have the opportunity to volunteer to review selected online modules and provide feedback to inform the final development of the programme.

This webinar continues the spirit of From Insight to Action, creating space for dialogue between practice, lived experience and research, and for collective reflection on how professional learning can better support children and families.
