Benjamin Kearns from University of Sheffield will present a seminar to the Management Science Department.

Abstract: Predicting future survival outcomes is often a key task within health technology assessment, and a number of different survival models can be used. Future predictions can be sensitive to model choice, and there is little consensus on which model type to use. In this talk I shall introduce dynamic survival models, and show how they take advantage of the temporal structure of survival data. The performance of these models is compared against other models in a simulation study of survival from a disease when some patients are 'cured'.These methods are also applied to a case-study of real survival data, comparing published short-term data with subsequent longer follow-up. Potential areas for future research are presented.
