Environment, Literature and the Arts Season 2023 Mark Cocker will be in conversation with the FPCs Writer in Residence Karen Lloyd.
Renowned author and naturalist Mark Cocker will discuss his new book One Midsummer's Day: Swifts and the Story of Life on Earth, exploring how the world-wrapping journeys of these extraordinary birds serve as a perfect symbol for the interconnectedness of all life. Mark's award-winning books include Our Place: Can We Save Britain's Wildlife Before It Is Too Late, Crow Country, Claxton, Birds and People and Birds Britannica. Hewill be in conversation with the FPCs Writer in Residence Karen Lloyd.
MARK COCKER is a multi-award-winning author of creative non-fiction, a journalist, naturalist and a writing tutor. He writes or broadcasts on nature in a variety of national media and in 2023 he completes 35 years as a country diarist for The Guardian and Guardian Weekly having written over 1,000 articles for both papers. His books include Birds Britannica (2005) and Birds and People (2014) Our Place (Cape, 2018) shortlisted for the Thwaites Wainwright and the Richard Jefferies Prizes, Crow Country, shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize (2008) and won the New Angle Prize in 2009, and A Claxton Diary, winner of the East Anglian Book of the Year Award (2019). He lives in Derbyshire on the street where he was born
