Abstract: The advent of big data is fundamentally changing the business landscape. Data sources, types and analysis methods have changed dramatically in the last decade, and there are pieces of evidence that these are influencing the innovation in a firm. However, there is a lack of consolidated knowledge about how the new wave of data is gathered, organized, selected, and transformed in order to deliver a valuable product or service to the market. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore what types of data that telco companies capture, codify, and store;how they analyse it; as well as how they transform data in order to create or adds value for innovation.

A qualitative investigation has been conducted to understand how big data is managed to drive innovation in a telecom industry. The current study uses a grounded theory method and data was gathered through semi-structured interviewing with key staffs who perform certain tasks relevant to data analytics and innovation decision-making of telecom companies in Jordan. The understanding of how big data and its analysis are carried out by telecom companies will support our effort to offer a holistic view on the way these companies innovate in regard to their services and products.
