Condensed Matter webinar
Abstract:
In recent years, there has been rapid development in control and manipulation of coherent quantum systems. These advances allow for the study and utilization of coherent quantum phenomena, as well as the exploration of novel quantum mechanical concepts in realistic many-body setups. Such coherent effects are always impacted by coupling to an environment. In my talk, I will introduce several cases where the environment competes with the coherent system and induces novel population inversions, or completely alters the closed system's signatures. Specifically, I will discuss driven nonlinear bosonic cavities, light-matter systems, transport in quantum wires coupled to non-Ohmic leads, and conclude with showing how quantum measurement backaction can induce a population switching in a double quantum dot device.
