Join us for a talk from Dr Patrick Thomson from the University of Strathclyde on teaching labs in chemistry. Also available on Teams.

Dr Patrick Thomson is a senior teaching fellow and head of first year chemistry at the University of Strathclyde. He runs the first year chemistry teaching labs, and teaches organic chemistry. His research interests lie in the area of practical lab education, particularly around pre-labs, lab anxiety and the use of guided inquiry. He also has interests in student exam aids and teacher/pupil outreach. Patrick will present several threads of teaching design and educational research projects in the department of Pure & Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde, under the unified umbrella of anxiety reduction. Work has included studies of student lab task anxiety and mental health in the teaching labs, and the use of crib sheets in chemistry exams.
