Event Details

Following up on previous Languages in Science initiatives, this conference aims to further discuss how languages and science in combination can benefit one another. This year, we will hear and discuss perspectives from all over the world, hosting speakers from different countries and continents.

Day 1: Multilingualism and academic research

We will bring in contributions from multilingual researchers who research multilingualism themselves, to hear how their being multilinguals affected their research, and also to learn about how the different languages spoken by multilinguals are represented in the brain.

Day 2: How to integrate languages and science

We will then open the discussion to a wide range of speakers, from language teachers to polyglot scientists and musicians, to explore concrete ways in which languages and science can be integrated.

Organisers:

Dr Francesca Citron, Department of Psychology, Lancaster University

Dr Timothy Douglas, School of Engineering, Lancaster University

Dr Derek Hird, Department of Languages and Cultures, Lancaster University
