Rock band Massive Wagons return to their hometown of Lancaster to play the University's Great Hall on 19 and 20 September.

The band will follow in the footsteps of legendary acts to play the venue including Bob Marley, Queen and Blondie.

The gig, which is organised by Lancaster University in partnership with the Students' Union (LUSU), will be recorded for a new live album.

Andrew Barker, Library Director at Lancaster University, has helped spearhead the return of rock. He said: “We have worked hard behind the scenes to bring live rock music back to the Great Hall in recent years, and now thanks to the work of LUSU and the vision of Massive Wagons, we are doing that with an explosive set of homecoming gigs.

“We knew we had to begin with something huge, and the Massive Wagons weekender is going to bring an excitement back to the Great Hall which has been unknown for 40 years – the icing on the cake is that Barry Lucas is at the heart of the event which continues a tradition that goes back to when he put The Who on in 1969.”

Massive Wagons lead singer Barry Mills said: “It's gonna be the biggest thing we've done, and I hope it shines a light on Lancaster, the University, the amazing music scene, and some incredible people in the industry, and I truly hope the two shows bring a lot of joy to everyone involved.”

LUSU CEO Misbah Ashraf said: “We are delighted to be involved in bringing rock back to Lancaster campus with the shows by Massive Wagons. It’s going to be a great weekend, and we hope many of our students will be able to enjoy the gigs and the atmosphere this band creates.”
