Event Details
A series of virtual seminars by high profile speakers to present and discuss the latest development and emerging technologies for CO2 capture and utilization. Organised in collaboration with our partners in Malaysia, Germany, Ghana and China.
Carbon dioxide is well recognized as the major contributor to global warming which makes reduction in its emissions a worldwide emergency and priority. Efforts have already been published to capture and sequester CO2 from large point sources, especially power plants; however, the utilization of CO2 as a feedstock to produce chemicals, materials, and fuels is a great strategy as it provides a more economical and sustainable solution than sequestration. Similarly, land- and ocean-based CO2 capturing methods are emerging as green technologies with huge potential for scaling up at global level.
In these series of online seminars, international speakers from USA, UK, Australia, India, Qatar, Thailand, Pakistan and Malaysia will be sharing and discussing the most recent innovations and emerging technologies being developed in the field of carbon dioxide capture and utilization.
Day 2: Emerging technologies for CO2 conversion and utilization
9:00 - 10:00am: Novel DFM materials for CO2 conversion Associate Professor Dr. Abdelbaki Benamor, Qatar University, Qatar.
10:00 - 11:00am: Accelerating ex situ mineralization of CO2 through electrochemistry(pre-recorded talk) Associate Professor Dr. Betar Gallant, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
11:00 - 11:45: In perspective: CO2 conversion to fuels and chemicals in Thailand Unalome Wetwatana Hartley, King Mongkut's University of Technology, North Bangkok, Thailand.
This event is part of the COP26@LU Festival and aims to spark debate and showcase our leading specialists and research relating to climate change in the run-up to the United Nation’s COP26 in Glasgow. The week-long COP26@LU Festival takes place from Wednesday 20th October to Wednesday 27th October 2021. Please note that this event is being recorded.
