Lancaster University alumni are invited to a public lecture about the future of nuclear fusion

Fusion energy is the power source of the stars. Here on earth, nuclear energy has been generated by fusing small atoms. However, achieving this on a large and sustainable scale has become one of the great scientific quests.

In this free public lecture, Professor Ian Chapman, Chief Executive of the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) discusses the progress of and prospects for fusion power in a location of particular relevance - one of the pioneers of atomic theory, John Dalton, lived for a time in Kendal.

About Professor Ian Chapman

Ian Chapman became CEO of the UK Atomic Energy Authority in October 2016. He joined the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in 2004 and became Head of Tokamak Science in 2014. Between 2010 and 2014, he led the Stability Programme within Tokamak Science. He has also held a number of international roles in fusion, including acting as a Task Force Leader for JET from 2012 to 2014 and being appointed to the advisory committee for the US experiment NSTX-U in 2013.
