A webinar with the QF2 research team who will share findings about ‘what works’? to support the mental health of LGBTQ+ young people
Queer Futures 2 (www.queerfutures2.co.uk) is an NIHR funded research study that aims to improve the provision of mental health support for LGBTQ+ young people when they first start experiencing mental health problems.
There has been little research on LGBTQ+ young people and mental health support and as a result, we have not understood what type of support would improve their mental health.
We do know that:
- Children and young people’s mental health is a national UK priority
- LGBTQ+ young people are more likely than heterosexual or cis young people to experience mental health problems
- CAMHS are recognised to be under intense pressure
- LGBTQ+ young people underutilise mental health services
- LGBQT+ young people often find mental health services unhelpful
Following 3 years of research, including investigation of current services for LGBTQ+ young people and specific service-based case studies, our team has created a What Works? model and microsite, intended to support service development within the NHS, local authority and third sector providers; as well as inform LGBTQ+ young people about their rights and what they might expect from a mental health service.
At this online event, you will have a chance to listen to the research team sharing the 'what works?' model and have an opportunity to ask questions about their research and findings.
