The Castle Symposium – Late Medieval | Early Modern Literature Plenary lecture: Professor Jessica Malay (University of Huddersfield)

Our annual conference at Lancaster Castle, run as part of the Northern Premodern Seminar, will focus on the significance of castles in medieval and early modern culture. What does a castle represent? How does the construction, maintenance, restoration, defence, invasion or appropriation of a castle change the relationship between those inside and outside its walls? We invite proposals for short papers (15-20 mins) on castles – medieval or early modern – from a range of disciplines including literature, performance, history and heritage studies, archeology and architecture. Please send proposals (title, your contact details and outline of 250 words) to a.g.findlay@lancaster.ac.uk by 1 December 2021
