Lancaster Arts is proud to present Serial Dissenter by Tony Heaton OBE. This will be a unique exhibition, making connections between sculpture, activism, dissent and protest, in the context of the Disability Arts Movement.

Lancaster Arts is proud to present Serial Dissenter by Tony Heaton OBE as a keystone in our year-long programme focussed on Dissent. Tony is a multi award-winning sculptor, whose career began here at Lancaster University. This will be a unique exhibition, making connections between sculpture, activism, dissent and protest, in the context of the Disability Arts Movement.

Internationally known for both his sculpture and his activism, Tony’s exhibition will reveal key influences and trace the ways in which dissent has been present throughout his sculptural practice. Lancaster University offers a unique context, and the exhibition will feature early rebellious student works, many not seen by the public in decades but offering intriguing insights.

Serial Dissenter will open up questions on what makes sculpture a particularly powerful artform in relation to dissent and explore the role of humour and irony in this, as well as situating Tony in relation to his contemporaries.

Tony will be taking part in our Artists in Conversation series at 1pm on Tuesday 17 February in the Jack Hylton Room, next to the Peter Scott Gallery. You can book you free place here.

Then, from 4-5pm, join us for Serial Dissenters, a conversation on artistic practice and dissent with Tony, alongside fellow artists Robert Williams and Steve Varden also in the Jack Hylton Room, followed by a drinks reception in the gallery. You can book for free here.

Exhibition open: Monday-Friday 13th Feb-27th March 11am-5pm. This will also be open evening pre-show for any Lancaster Arts at Lancaster University events based in the Great Hall Complex. (13th February, 19th February, 26th February, 21st March, 24th March & 27th March)
