Join the Centre for Organisational Health & Well-being and the Work Foundation for this Work & Health Forum event. It will bring together leaders from business, policy & academia to discuss North West leaders can prioritise creating healthy jobs to tackle worker shortages & support economic growth.
The Government has set an ambitious target to raise the employment rate to 80% – which would represent an increase of approximately two million more people in work than today. Achieving this target is critical to the Government’s wider goals of growing the economy, balancing the public finances and improving living standards across the country.
However, in reality, the UK faces a number of health-related workforce challenges that are impacting workers, employers and the economy. Since the beginning of 2020, the number of people who have left the labour market altogether due to long-term illness has risen by nearly 700,000 and now sits at over 2.8 million. This plays out differently across the UK, with some areas across the North West of England having higher levels of long-term sickness which can create worker and skills shortages.
