The Young Staff Network is launching a Buddying scheme to support the professional development of its members. The scheme aims to match members with a 'buddy' based on experience, area of professional interest, career ideas etc. to provide informal guidance and support relating to their career.

The Young Staff Network is launching a Buddying scheme to support the professional development of its members. The scheme aims to match members with a mentor, mentee or equal partner based on their experience, area of professional interest, career ideas etc. to provide informal guidance and support relating to their career.

Participating members of the buddy scheme can choose to be either:

• A mentor providing informal support and guidance to a mentee (this is a good way of developing your leadership, interpersonal and coaching skills whilst also supporting the development of your mentee).
• A mentee receiving informal support and guidance from a mentor (perhaps you feel you would benefit from informal guidance from a slightly more experienced member of staff, such as career planning and development, learning and developing new skills, coping with a significant change, gaining a wider perspective of the University, etc.).
• An equal partner acting as both a mentee and a mentor (this provides the best of both worlds).

If you’d like to be involved, please complete this Qualtrics form by COP Friday 29th October

• The scheme will create a bank of people who want to be a buddy (mentor) or benefit from having a buddy (mentee) or be in an equal partnership where you are a buddy to each other.
• Match you up based on experience, area of professional interest, career ideas etc.
• Host an online launch event of the buddy scheme w/co 8th Nov (TBC) where you will meet your buddy, receive an info pack and be sent on your way

Things to know

• We expect all Buddies to hold high levels of confidentiality and to be there as a friendly ear of support. More on this kind of stuff in the launch and info pack.
• We will also hold some Buddy catch ups to see how things are going further down the line but we plan to run this quite hands off.
