On Saturday 26th June, the Thankcaster event will take place on the campus grounds around Lake Carter within the family-friendly Picnic by the Pond event. Picnic by the Pond will feature society performances, photo opportunities and the chance to come and enjoy Lancaster campus, with those you are grateful for this year. Those who have previously bought tickets to Picnic by the Pond will receive a special picnic and a blanket. However, you don’t need a ticket to enjoy the day.
Non-ticket holders are welcome to come along. However, the event will now have a maximum capacity of 300 people at any time, with different zones for entertainment and activities. Marshalls will make sure each zone remains socially distanced and safe for everyone. You might have to wait a little while before gaining entry - but when you’re in, you can enjoy the day safely. Attendees will have the chance to visit the Thankcaster ‘big top’, where the Thankcaster digital wall will be brought to life in giant chalkboard form. You might even get a little token of thanks too…
Where and when
The event will take place from 11am on Saturday 26 June on the campus grounds around Lake Carter within the Students’ Union’s Picnic by the Pond event.
Safety
Attendees should follow all safety guidance on the day. Staff and students are advised to take lateral flow tests before coming to campus. Anyone can book free tests online or by calling 119. You can book asymptomatic tests to be delivered to your home, you can pick them up on campus, or take an assisted test on campus. Find out more on the staff asymptomatic testing webpage or the student asymptomatic testing webpage.
Remember, the best way to keep everyone safe is to get tested, get vaccinated if you can, and follow the ‘hands, face, space, fresh air’ guidelines wherever you are.
Community-organised for staff and students
Thankcaster is a community-organised event that is being made possible thanks to the efforts of volunteer staff and students from the across the University and Students’ Union. All Lancaster University staff and students are invited to the event, and you’re also more than welcome to bring your families along too. If you have any questions, please email the students' union's Shannon McCaul at su.vp.societiesandmedia@lancaster.ac.uk
