Global entrepreneur Gian Fulgoni and top level advisor Stewart Wallis OBE are among two high achievers to have been awarded honorary degrees at the graduation ceremonies in December.
Gian Fulgoni Doctor of Science DSc
A graduate of Lancaster University Management School, Gian Fulgoni has been a successful entrepreneur in the global market research industry for more than 40 years.
He built two successful companies that have been floated on the NASDAQ stock exchange – Information Resources, Inc and comScore, Inc, where he is currently Chief Executive Officer.
His approach has revolutionised market research by pioneering the use of new technologies. These have improved the sales and marketing practices of companies worldwide, enabling them to provide consumers with improved products and service.
In 1992, he received the Wall Street Transcript Award for outstanding contributions as CEO in enhancing the value of the market research firm IRI for the benefit of its shareholders.
In 2008, Gian Fulgoni was inducted into the Chicago Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame and named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
He has also served on the boards of public companies in the software, consumer electronics, pet products, marketing services and market research industries.
Stewart Wallis Doctor of Laws LLD
Stewart Wall was awarded the OBE in 2002 for services to Oxfam where he was International Director.
He began his career with the World Bank in Washington DC before serving as Managing Director for Robinson Packaging in the UK where he led a successful business turnaround.
His other roles include membership of the Board of the New Economy Coalition (NEC), in the USA; a Fellow of the Club of Rome; and Vice-Chair for the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Values as well as a Trustee of the Forum’s Inclusive Growth Global Challenge.
He stepped down as Executive Director of the New Economics Foundation (NEF) in 2016 after 12 years. NEF is considered to be the UK’s leading think tank in promoting social, economic, and environmental justice and he continues his involvement with their work as Senior Advisor.
