A Lancaster Medical School researcher has been awarded the title of UK Radiography Professional of the Year.

The national awards recognise an individual's remarkable contribution to improving patient care, service delivery or raising the profile of radiography's role in healthcare. The winners were announced during a ceremony in Vintners’ Hall in London.

Dr Lisa Ashmore said: “It is genuinely an honour to be named UK Radiography Professional of the Year. This recognition reflects not just my work, but the support, collaboration, and dedication of colleagues, students and teams I’ve had the privilege to work with across higher education, clinical practice, and the third sector. While cancer care in the UK faces real challenges, I am grateful to the people around me who keep pushing for change, even when it is difficult.”

Dr Ashmore qualified as a Therapeutic Radiographer in 2000 before doing a PhD at Lancaster University in 2007, supported by the Rosemere Cancer Foundation and an ESRC Interdisciplinary Studentship.

She has worked at Lancaster University since 2011 and is now a Senior Lecturer in Social Sciences at Lancaster Medical School, where her research has included the experiences of people having radiotherapy for gynaecological cancer, the study of technological innovation in cancer treatment, and a project looking at prehabilitation before cancer surgery.
