New international postgraduate pathway partnership with Gettysburg College

Lancaster University has announced a new international postgraduate pathway partnership with Gettysburg College, a distinguished liberal arts college in Pennsylvania, United States.
Building on a relationship that has developed over more than 25 years, the agreement guarantees qualifying Gettysburg graduates a place on one of Lancaster’s more than 80 master’s programmes and strengthens longstanding academic and cultural links between the two institutions.
The relationship between Lancaster University and Gettysburg College began with student mobility and study abroad activity more than two decades ago and steadily expanded into regular faculty exchanges, collaborative teaching and joint research projects. Gettysburg undergraduate cohorts have for many years taken part in Lancaster’s Interdisciplinary Study Abroad Programme, with Gettysburg faculty leading immersive academic and cultural modules on campus. These visits created lasting personal and professional links, opened pathways for collaborative research supervision, and established routine opportunities for Lancaster staff to lecture and run workshops at Gettysburg.
Over time the partnership evolved beyond short term mobility to include codesigned teaching initiatives, shared project work between students on both campuses, and growing research conversations across humanities, social sciences and STEM disciplines. The new postgraduate pathway formalises this progression and provides a clear, supported route for Gettysburg students to continue their academic development at a research intensive UK university.
This pathway offers admission into one of Lancaster’s 80+ master’s programmes for qualifying Gettysburg graduates, with guaranteed accommodation in Lancaster University owned or managed residences, and a formalised admissions process that supports Gettysburg alumni to obtain a UK postgraduate degree.
Provost Jamila Bookwala, Gettysburg College Provost said: “This postgraduate partnership with Lancaster University is the result of a longstanding relationship between our two institutions. We’re excited to witness even more Gettysburg graduates succeed at a top ranked research university in the United Kingdom and ultimately go on to contribute meaningfully in their careers and in their communities.”
Professor Simon Guy, Pro Vice Chancellor Global at Lancaster University said: “Lancaster University is delighted to expand and strengthen our longstanding relationship with Gettysburg College. As a research intensive institution that prioritises excellence in teaching, we value the exchange of ideas and perspectives that comes from working closely with Gettysburg. Our partnership spans more than 25 years of student and faculty exchange, collaborative teaching and research activity. We look forward to continuing that tradition and to welcoming more Gettysburg students and alumni into our classrooms.”
The partnership reflects Lancaster’s wider commitment to international collaboration and creating accessible postgraduate pathways for talented students. Departments and student support teams can expect increased engagement from Gettysburg graduates and are encouraged to promote the pathway and explore further opportunities for joint teaching and research activity.
This partnership is one of a growing number of international partnerships that provides Lancaster students with access to high quality education in an increasingly global world.
