This session is part of the Management School's Masterclass Week for prospective undergraduates.

Strategic decision making is essential to organisational success. Strategic problems often relate to opportunities that arise, which require decision makers to respond rapidly under pressure, making fast decisions and communicating them effectively. However, rapid thinking shouldn’t mean a lack of creativity!

Often our problem-solving capabilities are blocked by barriers, such as 'we always do it that way' or thinking there is only one way to do something properly. Divergent thinking skills enable us to identify new ways of doing things, and allow us to apply creativity to problem solving. But, does gender affect how we consider a problem and our ability to think outside the box?

In this interactive session, we explore these ideas and undertake "the paperclip challenge" to highlight the importance of understanding why and how we think, and the impact this has on our ability to be creative problem solvers and decision makers in business.
