4 week Pre-sessional English Language Course

If your course language requirement is IELTS 7.0 then you will need to take the 4-week pre-sessional. This programme is designed for students who currently have an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each element. On successful completion of the course, students will have improved their language skills to a level, which is acceptable for entrance to their academic programme. Please note that this is a guide only and English language requirements can vary depending on your academic programme. 2 week Study Start Induction Course

If you have already met your English language requirement, you may want to consider attending our Study Start course. Study Start is a 2-week induction course designed to help international students to get the best possible start for their degree at Lancaster University.

Starting a university degree, especially if you are moving far from home, can seem daunting. Often students come with questions, for example:

  • What kinds of classes will I have, and will they be similar to those in my previous studies?
  • What conventions do I need to follow when writing essays, reports or dissertations?
  • How can I avoid plagiarism?
  • What is the best way to organise my time so I can get everything done?
  • How can I get good marks on my assignments and exams?

Study Start will not only help you to find answers to these questions. It also aims to help you to become an independent and confident student. You will learn how to get the most out of being at a world-renowned university.
