This programme provides you with research training and the opportunity to conduct your own research via a dissertation project in the broad area of Applied Linguistics. You will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the major theoretical and methodological debates in a wide variety of sub-fields of Applied Linguistics, including:

  • Language Learning and Teaching
  • Corpus Linguistics
  • Discourse Studies
  • Language Testing
  • Forensic Linguistics

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

2:1 Hons degree (UK or equivalent) in Applied Linguistics or a related subject, for example Linguistics, Foreign Languages, Education.

English language requirements

We require an IELTS (Academic) Test with an overall score of at least 6.5, and a minimum of 6.5 in reading and writing and 6.0 in listening and speaking.

We also consider other English language qualifications and if your score is below our requirements, you may be eligible for one of our pre-sessional English language programmes.
