Join the Green Lancaster team on an ECOWoods practical field trip to Hollin Bark Farm in the Lake District and contribute to enhancing biodiversity on a working upland farm.

Hollin Bank Farm is an upland, organic, environmentally focused farm in the Lake District. On their land they stock a small number of sheep, cattle, poultry, bees and pigs. They are beginning a project to restore traditional and ecological practices to allow sustainable and resilient landscape management for the health of the farm and the community. Part of the land is ancient oak woodland where, after a tour of the farm, we will assist with some baseline surveys of the understory to assess its current state. We will also do some drystone walling, a traditional skill that is central in lake district farming.

All volunteers joining this field trip will need to bring suitable outdoor clothing (warm and waterproof clothing and/or sun protective clothing), waterproof and sturdy footwear such as wellies or hiking boots, as well as a packed lunch and warm/cold drink. It will be possible to borrow equipment from Green Lancaster if necessary.

Please contact the Green Lancaster team on green@lancaster.ac.uk if you have any questions related to accessibility requirements.

Full details will be circulated by e-mail to all registered volunteers during the week commencing 15th May.

Our field trips are a real opportunity and privilege to experience the great outdoors and contribute to significant projects across the country that tackle the climate and ecological emergencies. If you have booked a place but are no longer able to attend, please cancel your ticket to enable someone else to benefit from this opportunity. Thank you.
