From Business Intelligence Analysis to Events Ticket Platform Start-Up
By the time Ben Davenport (Business Analytics & Consultancy, 2022, Grizedale) graduated, he had already fallen into a routine that would define the next phase of his work. He spent his days working as a business intelligence analyst, and his evenings and weekends building Evnt Central which came from a gap that became obvious once he saw it.
After missing tickets for McFly's 2023 comeback tour, Ben realised presales had been available in advance, but he had not known where to find them. The issue was not demand on its own. It was access to information. Presales existed across different platforms, but they were scattered, inconsistent, and often difficult to track properly, with nowhere giving a one-stop shop to them.
That was the starting point. Existing sites listed events, but very few treated presale access as something central. Fewer still brought everything together in a way that felt complete and current so Ben set out to build something that did both.
The first version of Evnt Central was simple. A site that listed events and attached presale information to them. It worked, but it was limited. What followed was two years of steady development, built entirely without funding. Just Ben and a developer working as equal partners, fitting everything around full-time jobs and improving the product piece by piece. Over time, the platform expanded. The site was rebuilt, an app was launched, and new features were added that went beyond just finding tickets. Tools like countdown tracking and a digital scrapbook began to turn it into something closer to an all-in-one concert platform.
Growth has come without paid marketing. Instead, it has relied on consistent output across social platforms, especially short-form video. The focus has been on showing people what they are already looking for, rather than trying to force attention. The business currently runs on an affiliate model, with revenue tied to ticket referrals. That will expand over time, with plans for B2B elements and paid features within the app.
A lot of the advantage comes down to speed. With a small team and no external pressure, decisions can be made quickly and based on data. Ben’s background in analytics shapes how the platform develops and where effort is focused. That speed is most visible in timing. One of the key strengths of Evnt Central is being early. New events and presales are surfaced quickly, often before people see them elsewhere. In a space where timing decides access, that matters.
After two years of consistent work, the platform has built a solid base. More than 25,000 users have created accounts, and the app has reached 4,000 downloads within its first two months.
The focus now is growth. Expanding reach through search, social channels, and continued product development. The long-term aim is straightforward. To build something people rely on. A single place where they can find events, access tickets, and keep a record of the experiences that follow.
Whilst Ben always had a natural talent with numbers, completing a Business Analytics & Consultancy degree at Lancaster taught him how to utilise this to help a business improve and grow through the use of data-driven decisions. This was further complemented by a placement year which allowed him to implement these skills in the real world, and can now be applied to Evnt Central. Ben commented:
“Being part of Lancaster University and the collegiate system has given me friends and skills for life for which I’ll be forever grateful.”
