Academic Writing As Craft Seminar - Julien Cayla is an associate professor of marketing at Nanyang Business School (Singapore).
Although academics are typically judged on the quality and quantity of their written work, they receive little support in this critical area of their careers. As a result, writing can become a source of worry and anxiety.
In this presentation, I will discuss the process of academic writing as a journey toward mastery of a craft. I will emphasize the importance of viewing writing as a skill that requires deliberate practice and a willingness to accept the inevitable mistakes that come with learning any craft.
By sharing my own experiences, failures, and insights as an academic writer, I hope to encourage other writers to approach their craft with a growth mindset and find joy and fulfillment on the path to mastery.

Julien Cayla is an associate professor of marketing at Nanyang Business School (Singapore). He received his PhD from the University of Colorado (Boulder, United States), where he majored in marketing and minored in cultural anthropology. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Organization Studies, Journal of Retailing, and MIT Sloan Management Review.
