LU Text is the staff newsletter which is emailed fortnightly to all members of staff on the Lancaster campus.

Anyone can submit an article for consideration in LU Text. Please contact the Internal Communications team to submit an article to LU Text.

Content criteria

Overall, content should meet the following requirements:

  • Has general appeal to a wide range of University staff
  • Has been approved by line manager or HoD
  • Is not confidential and can be shared
  • Is new news
  • Directs readers to further information where possible and provides context
  • Is aligned to the University position/policy on key issues where appropriate

In addition, content must support one of our strategic areas of focus:

  • Establish Lancaster as a global university
  • Strengthen the University's national position
  • Research: World class research that changes practice and thinking
  • Teaching: Transform peoples' lives through teaching and student experience
  • Engagement: Actively engage with students, businesses and our communities
  • Culture & Values: Communicate a strong sense of identity and dynamic culture
  • Need to know: infrastructure changes affecting day to day work

Content categories

Content should fit into one of the following categories:

University strategy and performance

  • a. News issued by the Press Office
  • b. Significant news that increases the University's reputation e.g., NSS results, league table rankings
  • c. Something attracting media attention about LU in more than one national media outlet, or significant news in a popular local newspaper
  • d. Major awards
  • e. Funding for research above £1m, unless judged strategically significant
  • f. Senior leadership events
  • g. CSR initiatives that are endorsed by the University and enhance reputation

People

  • a. Flexible benefits
  • b. Equality & diversity
  • c. Appointment or resignation of a UMAG member (if not communicated by an all staff email)
  • d. Appointment of direct reports to VCO, Senior Academic and Professional Services appointments
  • e. HR All Staff survey and results
  • f. People stories that recognise significant achievement and enhance the reputation of the University
  • g. Promotions from grade 8 upwards
  • h. New starters requiring visibility across an all staff audience
  • i. Obituaries and death notices

  • a. Vacancies which have been released this week

Training Courses

  • a. New training courses

Campus Investment and Improvement

  • a. 'Sign post' major structural work affecting a large area of Campus
  • b. IT updates that will cause major disruption

Food and Drink

  • a. Summarise LU's special offers for the coming week

What's On

  • a. University activities from which staff would benefit

Please note

Advertising of external events that have a clear link to the University, eg the Walk for Life, demonstrating the University's commitment to its local communities, will be included. However external events that have no clear connection strategically will not be accepted.
