Bowland Avenue pavement improvements


The Chaplaincy on Bowland Avenue.

From Monday 21 July to Friday 12 September 2025 a phased programme of improvement works will be undertaken to widen and replace the tarmac footpaths around the Chaplaincy.

The work will involve removing some of the trees closest to the north and east footpaths to prevent further root damage, replacement native trees will be planted elsewhere on campus. Access to the Chaplaincy and accommodation will remain throughout the work.

A contractor site welfare unit will be located in one accessible parking bay and part of the motorcycle parking area for the whole duration of the works.

The work is being phased to minimise disruption where possible.

Phase 1: Monday 21 July – Friday 1 August - Works will be concentrated on the north and east sides of the Chaplaincy. The car parking bays along the east and north side of the Chaplaincy will be closed and used for contractor compound and material storage. An alternative pedestrian route will be signposted on existing footpath networks. Access to the Chaplaincy will be from the south entrance, opposite Security.

Phase 2: Monday 4 August to Friday 12 September - Works will be concentrated on the south and west sides of the Chaplaincy. The parking bays to both sides of the north end of Bowland Avenue will be closed for the contractor compound and a temporary accessible footpath will be provided from Bowland Avenue (north) leading to North Drive.

Please note: A temporary bus stop will in place on Bowland Avenue while the Underpass bus station is closed for works from Monday 4 August until Sunday 7 September. Find out more about the Underpass closure and relocation of bus services.

Monday 4 August – Friday 29 August - The pedestrian crossing leading to the Sports Centre footpath will be temporarily closed and a new temporary accessible pedestrian crossing and footpath will be provided to the south side of Bowland Hall.

Access to the Chaplaincy will be from the main entrance to the east side of the Chaplaincy.

Parking bays around the Chaplaincy will be released as soon as is practicably possible. Access to the Chaplaincy and accommodation will remain throughout the work.
