A unique educational experience at a globally recognised university

The learning experience

The main reason for me studying abroad in the UK was the unique educational experience and quality. I visited England and Scotland once with my family, which left me with a great impression and prompted me to study in the UK. Through studying abroad, I learned transferable skills in class that I could apply to my career and that are helpful for the academic career that I have embarked on. The diversity and inclusion also provided valuable lessons which I gained from the Lancaster community.

I knew a little about Lancaster when I planned to study abroad at the very beginning through an online search and the information provided by an education agent. I came to Lancaster for a foundation programme at the University’s International Study Centre. A lot of my decision to study at Lancaster was based on its excellent reputation and academic rankings.

After spending time at Lancaster, I can say it’s a great university that’s really community orientated. It’s a very friendly and international environment, with a lovely and historic English city close by.

Getting involved

There are so many great memories and old times that I miss now. The varsity sports tournament ‘Roses’ is one in particular; the pride you feel when you go out to represent Lancaster. Also, I miss the beautiful countryside views on a sunny day, as well as the food and restaurants on campus (especially the Sultan of Lancaster Experience!).

Studying at Lancaster also gave me lots of opportunities and experiences that have been helpful throughout my career. For example, before coming to Lancaster I didn’t have much experience of public speaking or moderating events. I also appreciate the chance to get involved with a sports team and represent the University.

Making memories

With its reputation and international identity, I am proud to still be part of the Lancaster community as an alumnus. It is a great experience when I meet another Lancaster alumnus at work and I have a great time when I attend the alumni events in China.

The community on campus is really nice. I was in Furness College, which was a relatively small and central college on campus. I particularly enjoyed its location and I have great memories of spending time in Furness bar and taking part in quiz nights.

To someone thinking of studying on campus, I would say: Congratulations! You will soon embark on a new, exciting journey at University. It will be a great and memorable experience, where you will make lifelong friends and move closer to your goals. Please enjoy every moment as it comes.
