The tariff for charging is 34p/kWh from 1st October 2023. The charging tariff is a variable one, rather than fixed for the academic year, so the rate may change if electricity prices significantly alter.

The comparative relationship between domestic electricity charges for EV users and the University’s own electricity costs is carefully considered when reviewing the tariff for EV charging. The new tariff, at 34p/kWh, will actually remain at lower than the break-even point for the University to cover its own costs for both the electricity used and the annualised management and maintenance costs of operating the contracted service with AMP-EV. Users are therefore buying into a wider service provision. This does not include the costs of capital investment for new EV infrastructure. Therefore, the University continues to subsidise EV charging operational costs to incentivise uptake.

Charging at the University is cheaper than virtually all public charging points and we do not charge a user fee on top of the electricity costs.

You will only be charged for the exact amount used and there is no minimum charge amount for using the charging points.

• A valid University parking permit, scratch card or visitor pay & display ticket must be clearly displayed in the front windscreen of the electric vehicle. Alternatively, payment for parking can be made through the RingGo pay by phone service instead.
• EV Permits are valid but all other permit types are valid too including staff scratch cards (note: staff scratch cards are not valid at the Health Innovation Campus from 1st October 2023).
• All vehicles must be a plug-in electric vehicle and be plugged into an electric vehicle charging point if parked in a charging bay.

Evenings after 18:00 and at weekends:

• No permit, scratch card or pay & display ticket is required.
• All vehicles must be a plug-in electric vehicle and be plugged into an electric vehicle charging point if parked in a charging bay.

First check that you have pushed the plug fully into the socket. Pulling the plug before the lock has released can cause the lock to jam in the plug.

Yes, you won't be able to use the charging points unless you register a payment card to your AMP-EV account on the app. Payment by ApplePay is also possible.

Yes, EV Permit holders can park in any staff parking space when not using one of the charging points and display their permit. Student EV Permit holders must park on South-West Campus if not using one of the charging points.

No, you will only be charged for the electricity your vehicle consumes whilst plugged into the charging point. When fully charged, the vehicle stops drawing electricity from the charging point.

Yes. Drivers can choose to end the charging session remotely by stopping the charging in the app. This will prevent any further electricity from being used even when the charging cable remains plugged into the charging point.
