Electric charging point in use

Electric Vehicles

Dedicated charging points, free charging* and more environmentally friendly. These are just some of the benefits of travelling by electric vehicle.

Register for a permit

Visiting campus? You'll need to pay and display (Mon-Fri 8am-6pm) in order to use free electricity at our charging points. Staff? Register your electric vehicle for a Plug-in Electric Vehicle Parking Permit from the Parking Office, Security at a cost of £121 per year. Students can also benefit if eligible for a permit.

Charging points on campus

There are 36 charging points on campus with dedicated parking for electric vehicles:

  • LICA building car park has 6 spaces
  • Furness Avenue has 15 spaces
  • InfoLab21 has 2 spaces
  • Visitor Car Park E - 2 spaces

Future use of electricity

During 2019/20, the University will be measuring electricity use at the charging stations to determine the typical electrical charge in a day, month and year. This will be reviewed for 2020/21 with the aim of having a discounted charge for holding an Electric Vehicle Permit but with a cost of fuel (electrical charge) added to the permit cost.
