Alumna Alice Releases First Album

Alice Ashcroft

Alumna and University staff member, Alice Ashcroft has released her first music album based on her life experiences and time in Lancaster.

" In 2017, I graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Computer Science. Whilst studying at Lancaster, I was able to play my music at various venues across the city. I didn’t release any music in this time, but I wrote (and wrote and wrote) songs, and released a series of EPs after graduation.

I first started playing in Lancaster when I was studying at the Girls’ Grammar School. It was only after I moved to Lancaster, and when I started University, that I was able to play my music live more regularly and develop a rapport with local venues.

Now, a few years later, I’m releasing my first album, and I’m so excited. I’ve worked so hard over the last year and have written these set of songs to fit together in my first album. I’ve taken inspiration from events in my life, my friends, and my relationship.

My music has taken inspiration from Lily Allen, Oh Wonder, and Joseph, but I also like to think that I add my own spin to indie pop too. In recent months I’ve been experimenting more with different instrumentation and harmonies, and I hope to carry on with this because I feel like this had added to my music.

I still love playing gigs in the North West and will continue to do so, but I feel like this is a new chapter for my music and I can’t wait to share the album with everyone!"
