About the partnership
Lancaster University and Sunway University established an academic partnership in 2006. While the Lancaster-Sunway partnership initially focussed on teaching, it has evolved over the years to also include research collaboration and engagement activities. From an initial cohort of 21 graduates, there are now around 4500 students who are enrolled in courses offered through the partnership.
Under the partnership arrangement between the two universities, students are able to study at Sunway University campus in Malaysia on a range of degree schemes and graduate from both Sunway University and Lancaster University. Lancaster University validates a range of full degree programmes which are taught at the Sunway University campus in Kuala Lumpur. After successful completion of the degree programme, students are awarded two certificates; one from Sunway University and one from Lancaster University. They will be alumni of both universities. The collaboration provides Sunway University students, graduates of both universities, with a strong competitive edge on a global level. A full list of the programmes offered in this partnership available can be found on our degree programmes page.
Through this partnership, Lancaster and Sunway University are also encouraging student mobility between the UK and Malaysia. Students at Sunway University can study at Lancaster University UK campus through a variety of opportunities such as 1+2 transfers, study abroad and summer programmes.
For more information about the travel opportunities available to students on each programme at Sunway, please see the Student Mobility page.

Lancaster University and Sunway University have recently launched a new joint initiative, the Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI). The FCRI will build on existing strengths at the two universities and will develop an innovative and agile portfolio of research, responding to the challenges facing urban environments.
The FCRI represents a logical ‘next step’ in shaping the agenda for future city development, and in deepening the relationship between Sunway and Lancaster, through its support for broad research themes of Digital Cities, Sustainable Cities and Liveable Cities. One of its core missions is to train and empower PhD students specialising in relevant disciplines. To find out more about the Future Cities Research Institute, please visit the FCRI website.
