The Tower of Teaching Award is made each year, on the basis of a student vote, to a member of staff for outstanding teaching in the department.
Professor David Towers, Head of Undergraduate Teaching, said "This year's prize has been awarded to Dr Niels Laustsen, who is one of the first lecturers that most mathematics undergraduates encounter at Lancaster, and also one of the most popular. Niels has enthusiastically and effectively introduced a generation of students to mathematical proofs."
The poll for nominations for the prize received 190 student responses and the result was decided by Professor David Towers, Dr Mark MacDonald, and Dr Daniel Elton, as the previous three winners, taking account of the numbers of students encountered by each lecturer nominated. The committee congratulated Niels Laustsen on being this year's winner, with the runners-up being Dr Rebecca Killick and Dr Alex Belton.
