"Attending the Offer Holder Event made me really excited to study at Lancaster, I loved seeing the campus! It was also a great opportunity to meet other prospective students and make new friends. They’re also a fantastic chance to get to know the department better and I felt much more at ease about going to university after meeting some of the lecturers and talking to current students about their experiences. It gave me a real insight into what it’s like to be a computing student at Lancaster and it really would be worth your while to join us. We hope to see you there!"

A future for Sophia

Before joining Lancaster University, I couldn't attend any open days due to the travel distance, so I used virtual channels to connect with the University and its students. The Unibuddy platform was especially helpful in solidifying my choice. Unlike other universities, Lancaster was proactive in supporting me with my Disabled Students' Allowance, which made me feel valued.

I had little experience in computer science before starting, but the lecturers reassured us that the course assumes no prior knowledge. A highlight was the second-year Group Project module, where I gained both technical and interpersonal skills like managing GitHub, fostering inclusivity, and resolving conflicts. This experience was rewarding, especially seeing the final product come to life.

The degree broadened my understanding of computer science's diverse applications, covering topics like distributed systems, databases, and ethical discussions. This foundation prepared me for my future endeavours, and in my third year, I secured a position as a Junior Software Engineer at a tech company in London. I’m excited to start this new chapter, knowing my experiences at Lancaster were crucial in achieving this milestone.
