Lancaster in top 100 of QS World University Subject Rankings 2022

Lancaster University has been named as one of the world’s top universities according to the latest edition of the world’s most-consulted university rankings.

The 2022 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject names the world’s best universities for the study of 51 academic disciplines.

Lancaster University has dozens of subjects included in the prestigious listings – with Linguistics ranked as joint 12th in the world.

Subjects in the QS world top 100 at Lancaster include:

  • Linguistics joint 12th
  • English Language and Literature joint 50th
  • Accounting and Finance 64th
  • Sociology 64th
  • Business and Management Studies 70th
  • Modern Languages joint 81st
  • Environmental Sciences joint 82nd
  • Arts and Humanities joint 82nd
  • Statistics & Operational Research between 51 and 100
  • Art and Design between 51 and 100

Subjects in the top ranked 150 in the world in the QS rankings included: Psychology, Geography, Social Sciences & Management, Communication & Media Studies, Education.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Schofield said he was delighted with Lancaster University’s position in the subject league tables.

“With one of the best Linguistics departments in the world through to our Environmental Sciences, our Sociology, our expertise in Statistics and Operational Research and many other subjects, Lancaster’s position within the global top one hundred is more evident with each successive year.

“I am particularly proud of the way Lancaster is able to draw on our outstanding disciplinary expertise to create a truly interdisciplinary approach to tackling some of the most challenging research questions with our creative staff and students, resulting in positive engagement and impact."

Compiled and released by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the subject tables evaluate 1543 institutions ranked across 51 subjects in 5 broad subject areas, creating over 17,700 ranked entries.

Lancaster is also ranked 132nd out of more than 1,000 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2022. Lancaster is ranked =122nd in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022, up from 136th in 2021 making Lancaster 15th out of the 101 UK universities included in the table.
