Lancaster professor appointed Visiting Fellow at the Royal Navy Strategic Studies Centre
Professor Basil Germond, co-director of the University research institute Security Lancaster, has received a Visiting Fellowship at the Royal Navy Strategic Studies Centre (RNSSC).
The RNSSC serves as the 'think tank' for the Royal Navy, harnessing internal and external intellect and progressive thought to guide and strengthen future decision making, inform policy and strategy decisions, and shape the fleet of today and tomorrow.
An expert in seapower and maritime security, Professor Germond will support the work of the RNSSC on a variety of topics, from maritime geopolitics to climate change.
He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the intellectual work taking place within the naval community. It is a great honour, and I am humbled by the opportunity to support the RNSSC.”
Captain Dr Kevin Rowlands, Head of the RNSSC, said: “Security Lancaster is making a real impact and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work more closely with Professor Germond over the next few years – a period which will undoubtedly include a defence review. His inputs and advice will be invaluable as we try to make sense of this dangerous and troubled world.”
At a time of major geopolitical and technological uncertainties, Lancaster University is strengthening its credentials as a leading actor in cross-disciplinary security research.
