Lancaster University Ghana celebrates opening of new campus

Officially opened by the Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission Professor Mohammed Salifu, Lancaster University Ghana (LUG) has celebrated the opening of its new campus with a special inauguration ceremony.

The new LUG campus, based in Tantra Hill in Accra, will be developed in phases and has the capacity to serve 3,000 students and 300 staff. By completion the campus will boast facilities such as smart classrooms, a modern library, prayer rooms for Muslim and Christian Students and staff, on-site hostel accommodation for students, a multi-purpose sports complex, and a cafeteria.

The new campus is a further development of an academic partnership between Lancaster University and Transnational Academic Group. The partnership was established in 2013, when Lancaster University Ghana was established as the first British University branch campus in Ghana.

TAG Ghana CEO and Provost of Lancaster University Ghana Professor Malcolm McIver in his opening address said: “TAG’s investment in this new campus doesn’t just signal our continued commitment to education here in Ghana, it is also a statement of intent to raise the bar and provide the young people of Ghana and beyond with a world class education.”

Lancaster University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Global (Digital, International, Sustainability) Professor Simon Guy said: ‘’I am delighted to see the opening of the new Lancaster University Ghana campus. Over the past decade we have worked closely with our partners in Ghana and we are incredibly proud to see our LUG graduates ready to take their place in growing the wider African economy. The relocation and opening of the new campus mark a new chapter of this exciting venture.”

Students across Africa are able to access Lancaster’s academic excellence in teaching and research on the African Continent. They choose from range of foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and earn a British qualification closer to home.
