Study Abroad opportunities are based on exchanging equal numbers of students between us and our partners. This list is a guide only as places at overseas partners vary each year.

Accounting and Finance
Studying abroad is an excellent way to stand out, gain global experience, and add something unique to your CV. As an Accounting and Finance major or joint major, you can study at one of our partner universities overseas — all while being taught in English.
You can choose one of two pathways:
- Study Abroad summer school (after year 1 or Year 2) or
- Study Abroad in Michaelmas term of year 3 [not available to (Industry) students on a 4-year degree programme].
Study Abroad Summer School:
Summer schools take place during the vacation period after Year 1 or Year 2. They do not carry degree credit, but the experience may be included in your reflective assessment for ACFN5291 Professional Development and Experiential Learning (if you complete a summer school after year 1).

Study Abroad in Year 3:
If you are currently in year 2, you may apply for a competitive place to study abroad during term 1 (Michaelmas) of year. Offers are conditional on obtaining a minimum of 2:1 performance in all year 1 and year 2 modules. We offer six places available at each of the following partner institutions:
- Beijing Jiaotong University (China)
- Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong)
- Lancaster University Leipzig (Germany)
- Sunway University (Malaysia)
Please note: Studying abroad may affect the professional accreditation of your degree. We will work with you to ensure appropriate subject coverage, but accreditation of modules at partner institutions cannot be guaranteed.
Even if you study abroad, you must still meet the requirements for your degree – including the correct number of Level 6 modules and appropriate subject coverage. Your Department Study Abroad Advisor and Academic Tutor will be able to provide guidance to help you with this.
How do I apply?
If you are interested in studying abroad, please sign up for and attend the Study Abroad Information Talks held during the Michaelmas term. Further information on how to apply will be provided during these talks.
When selecting your preferred destinations, it is worth checking the prerequisites needed for the courses you would like to take. Business courses are generally more quantitative than in the UK, and many require understanding of mathematics at a higher level than GCSE. Calculus is a common prerequisite. You will have to take and pass the Study Abroad Mathematics module offered by the Management School.

The Economics department of North American universities is usually located in the College (or Faculty) of Arts and Sciences, rather than in the College (or Faculty) of Business.
The content of Economics courses in North America is generally of a much more quantitative nature than in the UK, and A Level Maths is a prerequisite to be able to study abroad. Business Economics majors wishing to study in North America are strongly encouraged to take ECON 103 in Part 1.

If you are on one of the Study Abroad degree schemes offered by the Lancaster Physics Department then, subject to your academic performance, you will have the opportunity to study abroad for all of Year 3. You must confirm with the Physics Study Abroad Advisor at the beginning of Year 2 that you wish to take up your place on the exchange programme and begin planning for your year abroad.
