Lancaster University & Lavras Partnership

Lancaster University has strengthened links with Brazil through the development of a dual PhD programme with the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA).

Founded in 1908 as the Agricultural School of Lavras, UFLA is based in Minas Gerais in the south east of Brazil and has grown to become of the leading universities in Brazil with over 2000 postgraduate students.

Dual PhD programmes are currently offered in Biodiversity and are taught jointly by UFLA and Lancaster Environment Centre academic staff. Students will have a supervisor from both UFLA and Lancaster and are expected to study a significant part of the PhD at each university.

Upon successful graduation students will be awarded two degrees, one from UFLA and one from Lancaster University.
