Lancaster Fine Art Graduate Named as one of the North-West's Best

Online magazine The Double Negative included Elizabeth in their ‘Class of 2016’ article, which profiles the region’s top fine art graduates. Elizabeth, who graduated in 2016, is now exhibiting a new sculpture at the Class of 2016 group show which runs until 29th September at Hanover Project in Preston. Lecturer Pip Dickens nominated Elizabeth for the honour. 

“I feel really proud,” said County College alumnus Elizabeth. “It was unexpected because there is such a range of talent at Lancaster but I am really happy to have been chosen.” Elizabeth is exhibiting a new piece of work that explores issues of immigration, diaspora and homelessness. “I create sculptures using mundane and defunct materials through the use of balance. They take time to develop but their power lies in their momentary existence,” she said. 

“The process of developing the pieces is very hands-on; I can't begin to understand how the materials will interact until I am in the studio with them.”Having graduated with a first class honours degree in Fine Art, Elizabeth is now keen to pursue a career in art curation.“I feel the course prepared me well both the world of work and for pursuing a career in the arts,” she said. 

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Lancaster. The course was a perfect balance of studio practice and academic modules. The tutors were extremely knowledgeable and supportive throughout and their guidance and critique was invaluable. The art technicians and careers team were also excellent, particularly in supporting me in my third year.”
