Claire receives her award from Damian Lewis, Sam Mendes and Lord Puttnam

Claire Hennie (Music, 1994, Cartmel) has won an award for excellence in music tuition.

Claire was presented with the Private Music Teacher of the Year Award by the Global’s national classical music radio station Classic FM at the 15th annual Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Awards. The award was presented by actor Damian Lewis, film director Sam Mendes and film producer Lord Puttnam.

The Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Awards seek to recognise and reward those teachers who have made a real difference to the musical life of young people. As part of the Award, Claire will receive musical equipment and instruments and software for the school.

The judges commented: “Claire delivers clear and exciting one to one lessons which demonstrate her high standards of professionalism. She works hard to continuously improve her own performance and skills as a teacher, ensuring that her students get the very best tuition. This award is very well deserved, and recognizes Claire’s incredible achievements in private teaching.”

On receiving her award Claire comments: "I am completely overwhelmed! It is a huge honour to be given this award. Teaching music for me isn’t a job at all, it’s an all-consuming passion, and I consider myself incredibly lucky to be working with some amazing young people who are utterly inspiring to me."

Claire,whose maiden name is Waller, is married to another Lancaster graduate James Hennie (BEng, 1995, Pendle college).
