This online taster session provides an introduction to what it’s like to study Philosophy, Politics and/or Religion at Lancaster University within the theme of International Women's Day, as well as the opportunity to ask questions to our staff and current students.

5:05 - 5:15pm: What's it like to study at Lancaster University?

5:15 - 5:35pm: Women, Decolonisation and Politics: Spotlighting Champions of Change in Academia

This session provides an insight into the world of decolonisation, politics and women by focusing on how women have been questioning what we consider to be ‘knowledge’ based on a Eurocentric account of whose knowledge counts. Politics helps us to think about the power-relations and colonial legacies that shape our understandings and responses to events happening around us.

5:35 - 5:55pm: Buddhist Women Philosophers from Ancient India

This session gives a brief introduction to the Therigatha, a book that is widely regarded as the oldest book in world authored entirely by women. The Therigatha includes a variety of female perspectives on central Buddhist teachings. It offers a uniquely female perspective on Buddhist philosophy by relating the Buddha's teachings to the experiences of wives, mothers, and daughters. As we will see, many of its insights are as relevant today as they were 2,500 years ago.
