New Adventures in Health Tech Product Development

Health tech, specifically Health IoT is a growing and vibrant industry as the ways that tech can help support individuals, communities and health care professionals to improve health outcomes, supporting lifelong healthy living. From smart watch, to care in the home through to bio-medical technologies, the breadth of technological interventions is staggering. So how do you know what to do to protect your customers/clients/patients? How much security is enough? How do you balance spending your resource on security and features and capabilities? Why is security different to safety and different to normal IT security for these products? These are challenging questions and in this event you will hear from individuals with experience of these challenges, and engage with the latest research from Lancaster University’s HIPSTER project in a practical, interactive session to support you develop safe and secure health tech.

Interactive Session: How to Avoid Doing Software Security and Privacy?

Cybersecurity is challenging for a software product: we know we need it, but it costs effort and money that we might rather use for other improvements. So, it’s vital that we make good, justifiable, decisions which security and privacy features we implement. But how should we best do this?

This session introduces ground-breaking research from the PETRAS Hipster project at Lancaster University. You’ll have a guided discussion around a case study product using risk analysis along with objective industry cybersecurity information. You’ll follow up by deciding how you can each best use this in practice. You’ll experience techniques to decide which cyber problems to address and which problems can reasonably be ignored. And the session itself is fun!

Join us to learn how to safely decide your product’s cybersecurity.

Led by Charles Weir and Anna Dyson of Lancaster University.
