The Net Zero Energy Project construction works began in November 2024. The installation of the District Heat Network is complete and the construction of Energy Centre 2 at southeast campus is almost complete. The majority of new pipework has been installed to the facades of several buildings and this will connect them to the new heat network. Internal upgrades, including the replacement of existing gas boilers with new, more efficient systems, are also in progress. All works associated with this project are planned for completion by early 2027. Visit the Net Zero Energy Project webpages for more information and the latest work updates.
From Monday 10 August 08.00 until Monday 17 August 17:00 essential repair works will be undertaken to the lift in the Underpass.
A diversion route will be in place for those who are unable to utilise the stairwells whilst the lift is out of operation. Should the diversion route not be suitable due to accessibility requirements, Security will be available to assist and can be contacted on 01524 594541.
There will be no changes to bus services. More information on bus services is available on the Lancaster Bus Users website.
From early August 2026 until late February 2027, roof replacements and remedial works will take place at Grizedale College, Physics and County South. The works aim to improve energy efficiency, enhance health and safety and address ongoing maintenance issues. The works will include the installation of new handrails, windows and walkways.
Work will take place to the west end of the Grizedale College building. Scaffolding will be erected around the building (Co-Op side), which may create noise disruption. Some localised noise is also expected while the roof replacement work is carried out. Access in and out of the building will be maintained at all times.
Scaffolding will be erected around the single storey Physics building on Physics Avenue, which may create some noise.. Some localised noise is also expected while the roof replacement work is carried out. Access in and out of the building will be maintained at all times.
Scaffolding will be erected around the southeast corner of the building, which may cause some noise disruption. Some localised noise is also expected while the roof replacement work is carried out. Access in and out of the building will be maintained at all times.
A footpath closure will be in place between the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (FHASS) building and County South residences (House 77 Rivington) for the duration of the works due to the erection of scaffolding and a hoist. A fully accessible diversion route and signage will be in place. All other pedestrian routes in the area will remain in place.
From early September to late September 2026, external redecoration works to windows and doors will take place at the Chaplaincy building.
The building will remain open throughout the works. The first-floor flats will remain occupied with services continuing as normal and fire exits fully accessible. Building users may notice some general noise and dust while the works are underway.
The contractor will work around events taking place in the building and the Project Manager will share a schedule of works with staff and residents. All works are expected to be completed by the end of September 2026.
From early July to mid-September, internal improvement works will take place in houses Salter, Haythornthwaite and Calder. During this time there will be no access to the houses, and some noise is expected while works are underway.
From early June until early December 2026, Bailrigg House, a Grade II listed building on North Campus, will be undergoing an extensive programme of external repairs.
During the roofing works, access will remain to A and B Floors, but there will be no access to C Floor teaching spaces or offices. Staff offices will temporarily relocate to Bowland Main B106-B124, including the breakout areas.
Access will be maintained to Bailrigg House garage, The Croft, and for waste collection services.
There will be limited parking outside Bailrigg House for the duration of the works. Staff are advised to park on North Drive where possible.
There are no works planned for the northern annexe of Bailrigg House, but this space will be used by the contractor for welfare purposes.
There will be some noise and disruption during the erection of scaffolding and building works. Noise levels will be kept to a minimum and monitored during Graduation week.
Full access to all floors in Bailrigg House will be available from September 2026 for the start of term.
From late July until late August, scaffolding will be installed along the west elevation of the Library to carry out maintenance and repaint the external Louvres.
During this period the footpath adjacent to the west of the Library will be closed. Pedestrian diversion routes, including an accessible route will be in place to maintain access around the area. Five parking bays on Library Avenue will be taken out of use throughout the works for the contractors compound.
To minimise disruption the works will begin after Graduation week.
From early August until the end of October 2026, window and door replacement works will take place at the Pre-School.
To help minimise disruption, most of the work will take place at weekends, and the Pre-School will remain fully open with day-to-day activities continuing as normal.
Some general building noise may be noticeable during weekend working. A contractor compound will be set up in the parking bays at the end of the parent drop-off bays on South Drive for the duration of the works. This is not anticipated to cause any issues with Pre-School parent parking.
Work to upgrade the Sport Lancaster Astroturf pitch at Green Lane is currently underway with expected completion by the end of July. Installation of access control, new fencing and CCTV is ongoing.
In addition, work on the internal access controls to the first floor ground floor gyms and the swimming pool are ongoing. All works are expected to be complete by the end of July 2026.
