From Sunway to Lancaster
Hi there! I’m Alice from Malaysia. I have completed my BSc (Hons) Information Technology (Computer Networking & Security) at Sunway University and had the opportunity to pursue an MSc in Cyber Security at Lancaster University. Pursuing a master’s degree has always been part of my long-term goals, and even before I started at Sunway University, I hoped to continue my studies in the UK. When I found out about the strong partnership between Sunway and Lancaster University, it felt like a perfect opportunity, especially with the scholarships available to support postgraduate studies. While I was at Sunway, I reached out to the Lancaster University team to find out more about continuing my studies. They were super helpful, guiding me through the application and scholarship process and always quick to respond to my queries.
Studying MSc Cyber Security at Lancaster University
I really enjoyed the programme at Lancaster University. The block teaching method was challenging at first, but the hands-on assessments helped me to develop both my technical and critical thinking skills. The teaching staff were very supportive throughout. I appreciated the detailed feedback on assignments and access to the computing labs at the Info Lab, which were a great resource. Outside of studies, I have made amazing friends from all over the world. We even formed a little music band and jam at the university’s music room after classes!
This experience has strengthened my passion for cyber security and my goal of becoming a cyber security analyst or penetration tester. To future Sunway applicants: go for it! If you are planning to pursue an MSc in Cyber Security, brushing up on Python and Linux will help. Most importantly, enjoy the academic journey!
