Our Msc Economics is for students with strong quantitative backgrounds who want to deepen their expertise in economic theory, data analysis, and policy evaluation.

The programme equips you with critical analytical skills needed to analyse problems and develop innovative solutions to global challenges.

Personalised learning and marketable skills

You will join a select group of talented students and benefit from a personalised learning experience and access to expert faculty in one of the UK’s largest economics departments. We emphasise critical research abilities, academic writing, and effective presentation. You will develop these highly marketable skills, which enable you to analyse and communicate complex economic concepts confidently.

Programme outline

In your first semester, you will take foundational core modules in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics. These modules provide you with a solid grounding in modern economic analysis and essential quantitative tools.

In your second semester, you will deepen your understanding through advanced core modules that explore specialised areas of economics. These modules are research-led and cover cutting-edge themes such as labour and health economics, industrial organisation, monetary policy, and macroeconomic modelling. You will engage with recent publications and learn how to apply advanced theoretical and empirical methods to real-world economic issues. You will also choose an optional module to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals.

Enhance employability and stay current

Throughout the year, you will develop your employability through a dedicated module designed to meet the needs of Economics students. This module will enhance your communication and teamwork skills.

As part of your curriculum, you will also engage with research seminars, guest lectures, and workshops, ensuring you stay at the forefront of current economic debates.

Your capstone project

You will have the opportunity to apply your learning in a real-world context by choosing one of two pathways for your Capstone Project:

  • Dissertation: Conduct in-depth research on an economic issue of your choice, ideal for those considering a PhD or a research-based career.
  • Consultancy Project: Gain industry experience by working with an external organisation to address a business challenge. You will apply economic analysis, conduct research, and present findings to a client.

Whether you aim for a career in consulting, research, government, international organisations, or the financial sector, our curriculum ensures you are well-prepared for the competitive job market. Our graduates have secured diverse roles in economics across the world. These include:
