They cost the NHS almost as much as heart disease and cancer. And yet we hardly hear about these wounds! Broadly they manifest as a result of ageing, cardiovascular disease and obesity, and are very common in diabetics. In the next decades we are going to see a lot more of these wounds: and they are very hard to heal. Much less common are severe burns and scalds and this is where my story started …
